Sleep apnoea and Orthodontics by Dr Karen McCloy

As dentists our role in the treatment of children with OSA is two- fold. First to recognise the possible existence of the issue, and secondly to work within a team of people including the sleep physician, orthodontists, myofunctional therapists, ENT, allergists, and sleep psychologists depending on the case and the experience of the dentist. Rapid maxillary expansion (RME) is recognised as being a treatment for OSA in children either on its own, or in combination with other therapies. While it has been shown to be effective in the medium term, and results in the immediate improvement of tongue posture and the enlargement of the pharyngeal airway it may or may not be as effective in the longer term, emphasizing the need for control of the myofunctional aspects related to the formation of OSA. Clearly long term success in the treatment of OSA requires attention to more than just the hard tissue framework of the oral cavity. Learn more

Digital Dental is excited to announce the approval by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA) of the innovative Mphi laser range for sale in Australia. These lasers, developed by ASA Lasers of Italy, use the MLS® Laser Therapy, a patented wave technology that combines both pulsed and continuous wavelengths. The synchronisation of waves achieves optimal treatment, making it one of the most efficient lasers for treating both pain and inflammation.
